Love My Trips: A heritage-saving holiday ================================================================================ angieaspinall on 04/04/2013 06:34:00 A holiday in a National Trust holiday cottage at Hardwick is not like a stay in anywhere else. For a start, there's the fabulous historical setting: Hardwick Hall, the ruin of Hardwick Old Hall, Elizabethan walled garden, stunning grounds and rolling Derbyshire countryside. A visit to Loire chateaux of Chenonceau ================================================================================ SusieKelly on 26/02/2013 07:57:00 Gite landlady Susie Kelly accompanies a foodie guest to the Loire chateaux of Chenonceau, stopping at the chateau at Ussé on the way. I am up just after 6.00am to see to all the animals. The guests in Lavande have kindly agreed to keep an eye on the dogs until we get back. By 8.30am we are on our way to Fontevraud Abbey, 100 miles away. It's a vast and splendid building with a fascinating history, but Brad is only interested in looking at the tombs and effigies of Richard and Eleanor. We're out of there in half an hour and heading towards Chenonceau, 60 miles (100 kms) away. Brad, I have realised, is the historical equivalent of a train spotter. He isn't bothered about riding on the footplate, he just wants to be able to tick off the numbers. Budapest is two cities in one divided by the meandering jewel that is the Danube. Located on the west shore, Buda retains the history and culture with its medieval back streets and castle; while on the east of the river, Pest is the commercial heart of the city, vibrant, cosmopolitan and elegant despite years of communist stagnation. Coast guest house has plenty to boast about ================================================================================ angieaspinall on 12/02/2013 08:57:00 With a reputation for being the sunniest town in England, you can see why visitors flock to Eastbourne and, once there, it’s obvious that Coast guest house is one of the best-positioned places to stay. Eastbourne is quite a long, skinny place, with the town and pier at one end and the harbour at the other and so Coast, positioned as it is in the middle of the two is ideally situated. There is also guest parking available at the rear of the property, which is always a bonus for out of town visitors. A non-skiing winter trip to Graubünden in the Swiss Alps ================================================================================ AspinallR on 25/01/2013 06:33:00 Switzerland at Christmas – it conjures up some great images: snowy peaks, hot chocolate, warm mountain-top cafes and of course skiing, but what if you don’t ski? Travel writers Angie and Richard Aspinall found there’s plenty to enjoy in the Swiss canton of Graubünden without a ski pass.
